How GOATWOAT works

GOATWOAT is where the world votes on the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) and the WOAT (Worst Of All Time). Every list is a Top 10, every vote counts, and the rankings are decided by people like you. Here’s everything you can do.

Creating an account

An account is free and takes about a minute. Hit Sign in or register (top right), choose to create an account, then:

  • Pick a handle, your public display name on any lists you make.
  • Enter your email and a password (at least 8 characters).
  • We email you a 6-digit code to prove the address is yours. Pop it in and you’re away.

After that first time, you just sign in with your email and password, no code needed.

Forgotten your password? No problem. On the sign-in screen, tap Send me a code instead and we’ll email you a fresh 6-digit code to sign straight in, no password required. It’s a handy way in whenever your password slips your mind.

🔒 Your details are locked down

We take your privacy seriously, and you don’t need to be technical to trust it:

  • Your password is never stored in a readable form. The moment you set it, it’s scrambled with strong one-way protection. Nobody can read it back, not a hacker, not even us. (That’s also why we can never “look it up” for you.)
  • Your email is encrypted at rest. It’s kept as unreadable gibberish, unlockable only with a secret key that lives outside the database. If our records were ever stolen, your address would be meaningless to whoever took them.
  • We only ever email you a sign-in code. No spam. We don’t sell or share your details with anyone.

You can enjoy a lot of GOATWOAT without signing up. Making your mark is what needs a (free) account.

Explore

The home page is your window into what the world is ranking. You’ll find three shelves:

  • Trending lists, the lists attracting the most votes in the last 24 hours.
  • Newest lists, freshly created lists, hot off the press.
  • Lists needing love, a random pick of quiet lists (few votes, or none in a long while). Give one a vote and make its day.

Each shelf shows three at first. Hit Show more for six, or View all to browse everything.

Use the search bar to find anything fast: it matches any word, so “best composer” turns up any list with “composer” in it. Open any list to see its champion (👑 for a GOAT list, 💩 for a WOAT), the podium, the full ranking, the photos, and to cast your vote.

Vote Frenzy

Feeling opinionated? Vote Frenzy is the fastest way to shape a stack of rankings at once.

  • Tap Vote frenzy on the home page (you’ll need to be signed in; it records your votes).
  • You’re dropped onto a random list you haven’t voted on. Tap your #1…
  • …and you’re whisked straight to the next one. Ten lists, ten verdicts, then a little celebration. 🎉

You get one vote per list, so choose the entry you think truly deserves the top spot.

Duel Frenzy

Duel Frenzy is head-to-head, a rapid “this or that” shoot-out.

  • Tap Duel frenzy on the home page. Two contenders from a random list appear side by side.
  • Tap the greater one (or the worse one, on a WOAT list). A fresh pair from a new list loads instantly.
  • After ten duels, you get a rainbow send-off. 🌈

Anyone can duel, no account required. Playing signed out is just for fun; sign in and your verdicts count, nudging each entry’s rating up or down. Those ratings build a separate battle ranking you can see on any list by flipping the By votes / By duels switch. Want to focus on one topic? Open a list and hit Duel to face off its entries for as long as you like.

Creating a list & My lists

Got a ranking the world needs to settle? Hit Create list (top of the page). You’ll need an account.

  • Choose GOAT or WOAT, and give it a title. As you type, we suggest existing lists so you don’t make a duplicate.
  • Add a category, your handle, and a one-line description.
  • Pick an accent colour, set visibility (public or keep it private), and a size (a Top 10, holding up to 50 entries).
  • Optionally allow community entries. Anyone can suggest additions, which join automatically once enough people back them.
  • Add your entries with an optional one-liner each. Tap Find photos to fetch images automatically, or upload your own. A live preview shows it taking shape.
  • Hit Save and it’s live for the world to vote on.

My lists (in your profile menu, top right) gathers everything you’ve created, public and private, for quick access. You can edit or delete any list you own at any time.
